Round 1 v Hong Kong, NZ win 4-2

Anthony outplayed his much lower rated opponent from an even endgame. John suffered in a nice Benko game from his opponent. Emily didn't quite make it out of the opening. Yolanda's opponent fell to pieces in the ending. Allen converted nicely after his opponent blundered an exchange. Karen collected a free pawn and then her opponent obligingly swapped off all the pieces.

This was the last game to finish of the entire round (multiple matches) and so featured on the commentary screen for a long time, although it got barely a mention in the online commentary (the commentators concentrated on the favourite teams). The pattern of a pawn on the seventh attacking a knight rendered helpless by geometry and the rules of chess is always good fun when you're on the right side of it. 0-1
