The Canterbury Junior Chess Championships are open to juniors under 20 at the start of the year.

The highest-placed Canterbury junior will be the 2025 Canterbury Junior Chess Champion and the highest-placed girl will the 2025 Canterbury Junior Girls Chess Champion. Titles will also be awarded in these age groups:

  • Under 16
  • Under 14
  • Under 12
  • Under 10

Players must be born on or after 1 January 2005 to play, and 2009/2011/2013/2015 respectively for the age groups.

Medals and certificates will be awarded to the highest-placed player and girls overall and in each age group for open and best girl.

There will be other prizes dependent on entries.

Entry fee is $30.

Format - 5 Round Swiss

Time Control - 60mins + 30s/move

Schedule

Saturday 30 August

  • 9am: Check-in (please arrive by 9:15am)
  • 9:15am: Players meeting (players not present may not be paired for round 1)
  • 9:30am: Round 1
  • 1pm: Round 2
  • 4pm: Round 3

Players are not required to stay between games or after they finish their round 3 game.
 
Sunday 31 August

  • 8:45am: Doors open
  • 9am: Round 4
  • 1pm: Round 5
  • Prizegiving: After round 5, approx. 4pm

Eligibility
