Canterbury Junior Chess Championships 2025
The Canterbury Junior Chess Championships are open to juniors under 20 at the start of the year.
The highest-placed Canterbury junior will be the 2025 Canterbury Junior Chess Champion and the highest-placed girl will the 2025 Canterbury Junior Girls Chess Champion. Titles will also be awarded in these age groups:
- Under 16
- Under 14
- Under 12
- Under 10
Players must be born on or after 1 January 2005 to play, and 2009/2011/2013/2015 respectively for the age groups.
Medals and certificates will be awarded to the highest-placed player and girls overall and in each age group for open and best girl.
There will be other prizes dependent on entries.
Entry fee is $30.

Time Control - 60mins + 30s/move
Schedule
Saturday 30 August
- 9am: Check-in (please arrive by 9:15am)
- 9:15am: Players meeting (players not present may not be paired for round 1)
- 9:30am: Round 1
- 1pm: Round 2
- 4pm: Round 3
Players are not required to stay between games or after they finish their round 3 game.
Sunday 31 August
- 8:45am: Doors open
- 9am: Round 4
- 1pm: Round 5
- Prizegiving: After round 5, approx. 4pm
