Wellington Chess Club win Bledisloe Cup 2024!!!!

Bledisloe Cup and Blackburn Cup 2024

The NZCF reintroduced these 2 competitions on a trial hybrid basis this year – the Bledisloe Cup for clubs from major centres (Auckland, Dunedin, Christchurch and Wellington) and the Blackburn Cup for all others.

4 clubs entered – Wellington Chess Club, Hawke’s Bay Chess Club, Canterbury Chess Club and Invercargill-Southland Chess Club (unfortunately had to withdraw).

Hybrid chess is where players play online in venues under the supervision of an arbiter. So this year Wellington CC played out of their club rooms as did Canterbury CC and Hawkes’s Bay played out of a player’s house!

Matches were played between teams of 6 at a time control of 60 + 30 on Tornelo under the watchful eye of local arbiters and myself.
