From the President: Greetings Fellow Chess-players!

First, I wish all chess players and their families Merry Christmas and Season’s Greetings!

For those playing at Congress in Palmerston North – good luck!

2023 has been an excellent year for NZ chess with resumption of all tournaments after ending of Covid restrictions. Many Clubs have increased membership, and we have record numbers of players with NZCF ratings and rated games!

I specially note the outstanding achievement of:

  • Paul Spiller being nominated FIDE Honorary Member
  • Luna Lu has just won the Silver Medal in under 10 Girl’s Asian Championships in UAE

We look forward to Congress in Palmerston North in the New Year run by seasoned Organiser Mark Noble and Chief Arbiter Ying Wang.

There is an Olympiad in Budapest, September 2024, and many of our squad of hopeful candidates will be competing.

Note that there will be a Special General Meeting (SGM) 25th Feb 2024 held by Microsoft Teams to consider:

  • Approve re-registering NZCF under New Incorporated Societies Act
  • Annual Accounts for FY 2022-23 (ending 30th June 2023)

Our Annual General Meeting will be held Sun 24th March 2024 by Microsoft Teams to consider:

  • Nominations for Council for Calendar Year (& FY) 2024
  • Annual Accounts for 6-month FY ending 31st Dec 2023
  • Club Remits
  • President’s Report
  • Chess Development Plan 2024-26

Cheers
