NZCF SGM Report/Update

As noted here, there was a special general meeting of NZCF held on 19 October. All motions were passed – please go here to review the agenda and papers.

For players, the main change will be needing to sign up as an NZCF member in order to play in NZCF- and FIDE-rated competitions in NZ. This requirement will likely start in March 2026 with the exact date to be published once all the other policies and bylaws are finished. Players will be able to sign up through a club or with NZCF directly and there will be systems in place for both.

For organisers, tournament levies will be renamed competition fees, and will change from a flat rate of $7 per player for all rated tournaments outside club internal tournaments, to $10 per player for standard time control competitions and $5 per player for rapid time control competitions (the term ‘tournament’ was replaced by ‘competition’ to include other organised play as long as it can be rated by NZCF e.g. matches). The exemption for internal club competitions will continue as long as all players are NZCF members and members of the club, and likewise for interclub where players must be NZCF members and members of the club that they play for. This change will take effect at the same time as the other changes.

Obviously these are big changes ahead. Any queries, please email Craig Hall.
