Mr Keong Ang & Mr Timothy Ha – Complaints Decision

At a meeting on 30 November 2025, the NZCF Council upheld two complaints against Mr Keong Ang and one against Mr Timothy Ha regarding conduct around the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) .

The NZCF Council considers Mr Keong Ang and Mr Timothy Ha’s conduct to be an abuse of power as club officials and intimidatory in nature and condemns this conduct in no uncertain terms.

The NZCF Council considers that, Mr Keong Ang and Mr Timothy Ha are in breach of section 1.11.1. of the NZCF Tournament Regulations in that their conduct is offensive, dishonorable or detrimental to the interests, welfare or standing of chess.

1.11.1 POWER TO BAN PLAYERS

The Council shall have power to ban from future NZCF tournaments and other NZCF-rated tournaments any player who willfully infringes the NZCF or FIDE’s rules or regulations or whose conduct is offensive, dishonorable or detrimental to the interests, welfare or standing of chess.

As a consequence, Mr Keong Ang and Mr Timothy Ha are banned as players from future NZCF tournaments and other NZCF-rated tournaments for a period of two (2) years. The 2nd year of this is suspended for a period of three (3) years.

The above is effective from 1 December 2025.

Note that as per the NZCF Rating Regulations section 6.4, if Mr Keong Ang or Mr Timothy Ha plays in or acts as an organizer, arbiter or tournament official for a tournament, that tournament shall not berated by the NZCF or submitted to FIDE for rating.

6.4 Other New Zealand tournaments shall not be rated if any competitor, organizer (including the organizing member club), arbiter or any other tournament official is banned or suspended by the NZCF or FIDE on the day that the tournament commences.

The above complaints were made in accordance with and investigated under the processes outlined in the NZCF Complaints Policy.
