International Chess Day – July 20th

Sunday July 20th is International Chess Day!

We encourage all clubs (and players and organisers!!) to to take part in these celebrations, promoting the game of chess. Initiatives don’t have to take place on the Sunday alone, but also in the week either side of it.

Run an event, post something on Facebook, hold an open day/evening at your club, just spread the word. Anything that promotes this wonderful game that is such a big part of many of our lives.

The NZCF will do some joint publicity for anything organised during that period, just let the Admin Officer, Richie Christie, know – admin@newzealandchess.co.nz

Sunday 20 July 2025 – Auckland Chess Club

Alberton (https://www.visitheritage.co.nz/visit/auckland/alberton) has kindly invited the Auckland Central Chess Club (ACCC) to conduct an exhibition match in celebration of International Chess Day 2025. This event aims to promote chess in a unique and culturally significant setting.

It will be a closed event featuring a friendly match between ACCC’s junior and senior members.
