19 teams from 11 schools competed in the Bay of Plenty Secondary Interschools Chess Championship 2023 held at the Greerton Community Hall in Tauranga.

Gold: North Cross A (William Rui Liu, Ryan Hwang, Alan Li, & Vincent Xu)
Silver: Murrays Bay A (Lucas Hou, Daniel Zhou, Marcus Zhenbo Gu, & Bruce Huang)
Bronze: Pinehurst A (David Junyang Zhu, Jerry Yang, Dorian O’Rourke, Kenny Yuan, & Ashley Chen)
All three schools qualify for the National Finals, as we had more than 30 teams participating. Bronze was achieved on the narrowest tiebreak, half a game point, so Takapuna A in 4th would be a worthy Wild Card, Dr. Helen Milligan reports.

Bronze: Rangitoto A (FM Felix Xie, Andrew Li, Zachary Yu, Allen Li, & Wanyao Sarah Sun)
Medals for 6/6 will also be awarded to:
Hayden Steele of Takapuna Grammar A and Judy Huang of Rangitoto C

Takapuna Grammar qualifies for the National Finals. Kristin finished in silver medal position on tiebreak, by the narrowest possible margin of half a game point. They intend to apply for a wild card and I (Helen Milligan) would whole-heartedly support that idea.
This event was FIDE-rated.
Wellington Primary Interschool Championship

Venue: Newlands Primary School, 200 Newlands Road, Newlands
Organiser: Wellington Chess Club, President Bill Forster
Gordon Lyall and Bill Forster ran the Wellington Primary on Thursday as scheduled. Kelson A qualified for National finals. Results were put up on the Wellington Chess Club website Interschools page with Vega teams pages to follow.

3rd Kelson B 8 match points
