Open to all players who have FIDE ID.
9-round Swiss tournament, NZCF and FIDE rated where possible.
Time control: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with the addition of 30 seconds per move starting from move one.

Open to players with FIDE ID rated under NZCF 2100 at any time from the NZCF 1st July 2017 rating list onwards.
For players without an NZCF rating, eligibility will be a FIDE rating of under 2100 at any time from 1st July 2017 onwards.
9 round Swiss tournament, NZCF and FIDE rated where possible.

$20 NZCF Registration fee if not paid in 2017. Foreign players who are not New Zealand citizens or residents are not required to pay this fee.

No entry will be considered accepted until payment is received. All entries will be confirmed by e-mail and listed online.

 

Late entries: Entries to all tournaments need to be submitted and paid by 1st December 2017. Late entry fees ($20 per event) apply after that date. No new entries accepted from day a tournament starts.

 

NZCF Registration: participants who are eligible for NZ titles and prizes are required to be 2017 paid-up members of the New Zealand Chess Federation. An entrant who is not a member may register onsite, cost $20. Foreign Players who are not also New Zealand citizens or residents are not required to pay this fee.

 

FIDE Registration: NZCF will submit all rated events to FIDE (the World Chess Federation) for rating. All New Zealand entrants will be automatically registered. Overseas entrants are required to be FIDE registered via their own National Federations, and to provide their FIDE ID when entering.

TOURNAMENT REGULATIONS & FURTHER INFORMATION

 

Rating:
All tournaments NZCF & FIDE rated where possible.
Non-NZL players must have FIDE ID issued by their chess federation.

 

Prizes and Titles:
No player may claim more than one monetary prize per tournament.
In the event of a tie, prize money will be shared.
Players eligible for multiple prizes would receive the highest monetary value prize only.
Championship titles (eg. NZ Champion) will be awarded jointly where permissible.

 

Prize eligibility:
The grades used to determine grading prize eligibility are, in order: FIDE ratings, NZCF ratings, and national ratings of other countries. The applicable rating list in each case will be the most recently published. Unrated players with past tournament experience are requested to give an indication of playing strength and may be assigned a grade at the discretion of the arbiters.

 

Pairings:
Tournament administration and pairing software used is Vega.

 

Tie-breaks:
Tiebreaks utilised for indivisible non-monetary prizes in accordance with:
FIDE Competition Rules. Annex 3: Tie-Break Regulations. G. (c)
1. Direct Encounter.
2. The greater number of wins.
3. The greater number of games with Black.
4. Buchholz Cut 1.
5. Buchholz.
6. Sonneborn-Berger.
All are calculated and sorted according to Vega’s system.

 

Electronic Devices:
Electronic Devices in the playing area: bringing switched off devices into the player area will be subject to the rules prevailing at the time of the New Zealand Chess Federation. These rules will be displayed onsite at the tournament venue and added to the tournament website in due course.

 

Default Time :
The default time (for players arriving late for a game) shall be 30 minutes for all tournaments.

 

Appeals:
1. The Appeals Committee is Chaired by the Chief Organiser.
2. The Chief Organiser will appoint the remaining two members of the Appeals Committee.
3. If required, the Chief Organiser may appoint replacement members of the Appeals Committee.
4. A player may appeal against the decision of an arbiter.
5. Appeals must be lodged in writing before the end of a round with an appeal fee of $100 that would not be refunded unless the appeal is successful.
